The 2014 harvest came right on the heels of bottling. With barely a week to change gears our focus quickly turned back to our vineyards. 2014 was an ideal growing season. However, we were constantly asked by many consumers and journalists about the effects of the drought. Ironically, the drought was actually a benefit. The temperate growing season combined with a lack of water and an even weather pattern created mature fruit of intense concentration.
For E16, 2014 will go down as a very special vintage. It is our third vintage, and according to the Greek philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras, 3 is the noblest of all digits. It is the only number to equal the sum of all the terms below it. Interestingly enough, 2014 is equal to the sum of the vintages that preceded it. The last two years provided us with insights in the vineyards allowing us to highlight and fine tune their attributes. The resulting wines possess greater balance, elegance and finesse.
