A Weekend in El Dorado Wine Country

Turn your next visit to wine country into the weekend getaway you’ve been longing for. From wine tasting in the rolling hills of the Fair Play AVA to dining at local favorites and trying your luck at gold mining — here’s an insider’s guide to a weekend in El Dorado Wine Country.

Taste & Sip

E16 Winery- Located in the heart of Somerset, we invite you to swirl, sip, and savor delicious wines in an atmosphere of casual elegance. Expand your palate with Pinot Noir from the vineyards of St. Lucia Highlands and Chardonnay from Russian River Valley, to the locally produced Rhône varietals featuring Grenache Blanc and Barbera from our very own Baby Rattlesnake Vineyard. During your visit, discover our winemaking philosophy rich in family history and find out what gives each bottle a distinct sense of place and purpose.

Amador Brewing Company- Ready for hoppy hour? Hop on over to Amador Brewing Company for a crafty cold one. Specializing in ‘common and not-so-common’ craft beer styles, (have you ever tried an Altbier?)  a tasting flight is highly recommended! Hungry? Check out their food truck calendar for local BBQ, pizza, gyros, and more.

Heyday Cafe, Placerville- Get ready for an evening out on the town at one of the local favorites, Heyday Cafe. On the forefront of culinary excellence, guests are warmly invited to enjoy a wide range of cuisine inspired by locally sourced seasonal ingredients. Also on the menu is a regularly changing wine list showcasing a broad selection from virtually every wine producing region, including some of El Dorado County’s finest.

Andrae’s Bakery, Amador City- Wake up and smell the pastries! Andrae’s is a family owned and operated bakery. Nestled in the gold country of the Sierra Nevada Foothills, they specialize in handcrafted bread and desserts, baked fresh daily. It’s the perfect way to start your El Dorado Wine Country day.

El Dorado National Forest- We hope you brought your hiking boots — the El Dorado National Forest has 349 miles of trails ready to be explored. Visit the site for day passes and more information regarding all other recreational activities. Remember, always #optoutside!

Gold Bug Park- Travel back in time when you enter the Gold Bug Park. A REAL gold mine from the gold rush days, pan for gems or take a tour through the historical Hattie Mine dating back to 1888. A great excursion for all ages!

Sherwood Demonstration Garden- Do you have a green thumb? At Sherwood Demonstration Garden, Master Gardeners are committed to educating the public on sustainable horticulture practices and all things green. Tour the various garden terrains, get hands-on experience, and you’ll be a gardening pro in no time.

Rest Hotel, Plymouth- Catch some well-deserved Zzz’s at Rest—a boutique hotel centrally located and filled with all the best amenities. Turn your continental breakfast into brunch with sparkling Cava mimosas, reserve a wine tour service, or simply relax with a 90-minute massage. A perfect lodging option in wine country — you won’t want to leave.

I had tried several wines before and any I had tasted had been sweet and sweet. This wine is none of that - recent & zesty with a beautiful acidity....I know what i will be drinking countless this summer!!
