2016 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley
Hawks Roost Vineyard
Winemaking & Vineyard Details
The grapes were sourced from Chuck Jones distinctive
5-acre vineyard on Willow side Rd. In the heart of the
Russian River Valley. We have worked with Chuck Jones for
several years for our E16 Selection Blend. However, in 2016
we chose to showcase the vineyards unique quality by
bottling the wine as a designate Hawks Roost Vineyard.
The small, neighboring plantings lie about four miles east
of the Russian River in the Piner Flat area, a one-time
floodplain where the gentle slopes are composed of clay
loam and sandy-clay loam soil (Huichica Series). During the
growing season, clear days are subjected to intermittent
periods of morning and/or late afternoon fog from the
coast, mitigating mid-day heat and soothing Pinot Noir
grapes into giving up their bounty.
Five-plus acres of Mariafeld clone grow at the Hawks Roost
Vineyard where rows were plotted uncharacteristically on
an east-west grid, in 1998. Vines receive abundant sunlight
to attain a mature and masculine wine with solid structure.
